You have several choices for your unplanned pregnancy. It’s easy to feel uncertain in these moments, especially if you’re unsure which direction to go. That’s why we’re here to provide the information needed to take a deep breath and move forward.

Adoption is one option for your pregnancy. Though it can be an emotionally challenging decision, it can offer the peace of mind you seek.

Below are the key things you should know about this option. You can also schedule a free appointment with our caring team to learn more.

Adoption: Building a Future

Perhaps you know you don’t want an abortion, but you also don’t feel ready to raise a child. Adoption can offer a sense of closure; you can choose a family to love and care for your child. Your level of contact and the type of relationship you build are set on your own terms.

This option can be difficult, and you might have mixed emotions. However, adoption agencies are poised to answer your questions and provide support throughout placement and beyond.

If you’re interested in this option or even somewhat curious, you owe it to yourself to learn more. Ultimately, the pregnancy decision is yours to make.

Adoption Plans: What Is Available?

As the expectant mother, you are in control. You can select the adoptive family if you wish and determine which plan best suits your needs.

Adoption plans include:

Open adoption: Establish a relationship with the adoptive family and child through letters, phone calls, visits, etc. You can determine which type of contact best suits your needs.

Note: Open adoption agreements are not legally enforceable in Texas.

Semi-open adoption: Exchange limited information (i.e., first names) and communicate via a third party, like an adoption agency or attorney.

Closed adoption: Though this plan isn’t very common, it provides the complete privacy some women want. With a closed adoption, all identifying information is confidential, and no contact occurs between you and the adoptive family.

Only you can decide the plan that’s right for you. An adoption specialist can discuss your options and help you learn what support is available, including material assistance and counseling. It’s essential to know that all adoption expenses and medical costs not covered by insurance will be covered.
